About Us
COMPANY PROFILE
Founded in 2020, Alora Reusable Pads is a registered social SME with NAFDAC-approved products. We are dedicated to addressing the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products among women and girls in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas. Our eco-friendly, reusable menstrual pads are designed to provide a sustainable and affordable solution to period poverty.
VISION
A World were no girl or woman has to suffer period poverty
MISSION
We are committed to bringing women and girls closer to dignified menstrual health and hygiene management through our women-led social venture. Our Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) increases rural access to affordable menstrual hygiene supplies, which are locally manufactured and distributed by women. This initiative not only provides essential products but also offers decent wages to women engaged in our production and distribution processes. By doing so, we help reduce girl-child school drop-out rates associated with period-related sexual health complications.
Alora Background Story
The inspiration behind Alora Reusable Pads is deeply personal and rooted in my own experiences. As a young girl living with my father, I often struggled to afford sanitary pads due to their high cost. Cultural shyness and silence prevented me from asking him for such necessities. Through my work in school health outreaches, I realized that this situation remains unchanged for many girls across Nigeria. Nigeria is one of the countries that places a heavy tax on menstrual products, making them unaffordable for many.
Without access to proper menstrual products, countless girls miss school, and older women are unable to attend work. A pack of sanitary pads costs an average of $1.30, while an estimated 44% of Nigeria’s population (87 million people) lives in extreme poverty, earning less than $1.90 per day. While women and girls may delay urination and defecation, it is impossible to stop menstrual flow. The lack of affordable sanitary products exacerbates anxiety and stress during menstruation and increases their vulnerability to gender-based violence and sexually transmitted infections.
Alora Reusable Pads was created to address period poverty by producing and selling eco-friendly reusable menstrual hygiene products made from specialized fabrics that are comfortable to the skin, hygienic, and affordable. Our mission is to empower women and girls to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence, while also promoting environmental sustainability.

THE BIG PICTURE
Our vision extends beyond products. We aim to create a world where girls feel empowered in their bodies, achieve economic independence, understand their reproductive and sexual health options, and harness the power to shape their lives. Our direct and targeted regional market size is 20 to 26 million rural women and girls within menstruating age, with the overall national market size projected at $779 million by 2025. Various initiatives by sanitary pad manufacturers, governments, and NGOs operating across Nigeria, coupled with rising awareness about personal hygiene among females, are expected to boost Nigeria’s and Africa’s sanitary pads market over the next five years. The rising demand for better reproductive health due to social awareness is anticipated to further boost the sanitary pads and hygiene market in the coming years.
